The Lister Block was built in 1886, destroyed by fire in 1923 and rebuilt in 1924. It sat abandoned for many years. it was considered one of the worst examples of Urban Decay. It was one of the first indoor malls in Canada. It was recently restored using funds from the City of Hamilton and $7 million from the Province. Its not open to the public yet, but a friend of my got a sneak peak at the restoration and put together this amazing document with before and after pictures:
